Horsetail
I've always been fascinated with Horsetail Rushes (Equisetum hyemale),a leafless plant that reproduces not with seeds, but with spores. Since it's believed to have existed as a species for at least 300 million years, from as early as the Carboniferous Period, many sources refer to it as a "living fossil". Horsetails are perennial plants found in moist woods or other moist areas, and they can spread by rhizomes forming "colonies".
There are 9 or 10 species (depending on the source of information) of native Equisetum found in Michigan.
