Yosemite Off the Chain
Reflecting on life in the high country in one of the lesser-traveled corners of Yosemite National Park. Middle Chain Lake sits at about 9100 ft (2774 m) above sea level, below the the protective gaze of Gale Peak (left, 10,685 ft [3257 m]) and its neighbors. Despite all of the undoubted beauty in the lower and more accessible parts of the park, it is in places like this off the beaten path where I feel the real magic of Yosemite resides.
