Falling Water in Southern New Hampshire

This is the upper part of Chesterfield Gorge, just outside of Keene, New Hampshire. It is a shady, moody spot, even on sunny days, thanks to the thick forest of mixed hardwoods and eastern hemlocks that surround the stream as it cuts its way down through the rock. No dramatic maple leaves spreading themselves across the rocks here, but there was something special about the stillness of the place and the patches of light and fall color that filtered through the trees.
