Enshrined Forever
Today is President's Day in the United States. It is the national holiday where we commemorate all of the presidents in our history, but most especially Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865) and George Washington (1789-1797). Indeed, the current holiday is a fairly recent consolidation of what were formerly two separate national holidays, one on each of their birthdays. I took both of the shots in this diptych on the National Mall in Washington, DC. The left one is from inside the Lincoln Memorial, the one on the right is of the Washington Monument, which is currently being repaired after the effects of a recent earthquake. I wanted text in the right-hand image, so that it would balance out that of the one on the left. So I went ahead and created it myself, carving out a word that I thought appropriate for us to remember when celebrating these two men who gained much of their fame from participation in war, but worked so hard to ensure that afterwards there would be peace.
Camera: Olympus OM-D E-M5
Lens: Olympus M.Zuiko 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3
Left image: 19mm (38mm full frame FOV), ISO 200, f/4.4, 1/60 sec., single RAW file, hand held.
Right image: 12mm (24mm full frame FOV), ISO 200, f/6.3, 1/500 sec., Hoya circular polarizer, single RAW file, hand held.
Thanks very much for stopping by, and for your continued kind comments and favorites. It is all greatly appreciated!
