Sunshine in the Nærøyfjord
When the sun comes out in Norway's fjord country, everything changes. The already spectacular landscapes suddenly explode into color. Especially the deep blue skies of subarctic latitudes, the golden sunlight on the water, and the rich greens that come from so many days of rain. It is difficult to do it justice with mere photography. This place has to be seen to be believed.
The Nærøyfjord is 18 kilometers long (11 miles), is only 500 meters wide in some spots (1,600 feet), and is about 1,280 meters deep (4,200 feet) on both sides throughout its length. This remarkable topography and its wet climate make this place one of the best places anywhere for the dedicated waterfall hunter. Since 2005, the Nærøyfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it (along with the nearby Geirangerfjord) also has been rated by the National Geographic Society as the world's number one natural heritage site.

Thanks very much for stopping by, and I hope your New Year is off to a great start!
