Simon who was an artist/musician sadly passed away last year. I met him firstly while he was selling his art a few years ago at Merrion Square. I was drawn to his work and took a couple of shots. I wanted to portray him more but didn't know he was dying. He then told me and I left it at that. But we messaged each other on whatapp and he agreed for me to spend time in his studio. I photographed him playing music first. He said he was at peace while playing. He knew he didn't have long left. We then went to his studio where I photographed him more. I've always been drawn to emotion with my camera. I think I get my best work then. Camera skills go out the door and dealing with the person/people kicks in. Something I'm learning each day I have my camera out.
He was playing for a few minutes before I started to photograph. I could see the calmness in him and I think it shows in this frame.
