Cooke lens - early review

'The British Journal Photographic Almanac 1896' - Editor and reviewer J. Traill Taylor.

H. Dennis Taylor's patent 'Cooke' lens

'sui generis' = 'of its own kind'

Traill Taylor had attended Dennis Taylor's lecture at the RPS when this design was introduced for the first time, so his apparent confusion regarding the optical layout is slightly puzzling. Otherwise his observations follow the findings presented by Dennis Taylor at that lecture.

This review lens of f/5.6 would have been a prototype.

The reviews and new product reports would have been put together in the last three months of 1895, ready for publication in January 1896.

There is no mention of this design is Traill Taylor's book 'The Optics of Photography and Photographic Lenses' 1898 edition.
