Vaccinium calycinum Smith var. calycinum
x
V. dentatum Smith var. lanceolatum (A. Gray) Skottsberg (O`ahu type)
Hawaiian names: `ōhelo
Family: Ericaceae (the heath family)
Native.
Vaccinium is occasional to fairly common in the mesic to wet forests and shrublands of the Palikea area. The majority – perhaps more than 80% or 90% – of these Vaccinium plants look to me like V. calycinum var. calycinum x V. dentatum var. lanceolatum (O`ahu type) hybrids, with the remainder looking like pure V. calycinum var. calycinum or pure V. dentatum var. lanceolatum (O`ahu type).
