The two giants of minimizing the greatness

Barely larger than a pack of cigarettes, these two cameras are milestones in the history of analog photography.

On the left, the Rollei 35, designed by Heinz Waaske – a brilliant and far-sighted engineer. Waaske designed it while working overtime at Wirgin, whose boss rejected the project and fired Waaske. Waaske moved to Rollei, his design became one of the most famous icons (like the Mini Cooper or the Beetle in automotive history), and Wirgin disappeared from the market. The real career of the camera has accelerated even since the publication of the photo in which Queen Elizabeth II uses a Rollei 35 herself.

On the right, a similarly sized (and, according to users) much technically superior Petri Color 35. Unfortunately, none of the Japanese emperors was captured using this Petri, and the camera - although equally small, equally neat and charming, and perhaps technically better - was not as famous as its neighbor on the left.
