6295 Antwerpen Berchem 23 05 2011

11.41 SNCB Infrabel's 6295 heads light engine past Berchem to Antwerpen Noord. to collect 6207.

They came back at 13.02, also on a light engine move.

6295 was delivered as 212.195 to SNCB by builders BN - La Brugeoise et Nivelles on 31/03/1966.

Its latest overhaul revision was completed on 12/01/2022 (SNCB don't follow Germany's 6 years + max 2 years extensions before the next full overhaul).

136 of the Class were built. Initially there were 6 prototypes 212.0s and 212.1s built in 1961. Then the order for 130 locos (212.1s and 212.2s), built from from 1962 to 1966.

With heavy electrification of lines over the 1970s to 1990s, SNCB Diesels steadily lost passenger work and moved over to freight and then engineering.

Their last passenger workings were 2001 when the Class 41 DMU's replaced them.

The few working Belgium survivors are now with Infrabel, or engineering companies like TUC Rail and SVC/CRV - Spoor Vernieuwings Centrum/ Centre Renouvellement Voie.

6295 transferred to SNCB's Infrabel on 13/06/2004 and is still active with them in November 2025, now in their snazzy blue livery.

NB: Overhauls for this class have now finished. So, while around 50% are still active in November 2025, their numbers are expected to drop steadily from now on

As revisions expire and accidents/ major failures occur, they will be withdrawn.

Definitely one of my favourite classes of SNCB loks 😊
