6283 Namur Depot 22 05 2011

6283 tops 6299 as they change roads and reverse back a rake of sleepers into the engineers sidings at Namur.

6283 was delivered as 212.183 to SNCB by builders BN - La Brugeoise et Nivelles on 21/01/1966.

Its latest overhaul revision was completed on 26/06/2013 (SNCB don't follow Germany's 6 years + max 2 years extensions before the next full overhaul).

With heavy electrification of lines over the 1970s to 1990s, SNCB Diesels steadily lost passenger work and moved over to freight and then engineering.

Their last passenger workings were 2001 when the Class 41 DMU's replaced them

The few working Belgium survivors are now with Infrabel or engineering companies like TUC Rail and SVC/CRV - Spoor Vernieuwings Centrum/ Centre Renouvellement Voie.

6283 transferred to SNCB's Infrabel and is still active with them in October 2025 in their snazzy blue livery (as is 6299).

NB: the last overhaul for this class was completed in 2022.

So while around 50% are still active in 2025, their numbers are expected to drop steadily from now as revisions expire and accidents/ major failures will not be repaired.
