37420 Crewe DMD 04 06 2006

37420 (the ex 37297), was stored July 2000 from Crewe Diesel's WKCD pool.

 

After 8 years here, it was finally scrapped February 2008 at Ron Hull Jr, Rotherham

 

 

Loco History:

 

Built as D6997 at English Electric Vulcan Foundry (Works Number EE3557) and released to BR and Cardiff Canton Depot on 21/07/1965.

 

Renumbered under TOPS in March 1974 to 37297 it was a Western Region loco until 1985 when it headed to the Scottish Region and Motherwell.

 

Rebuilt as a ETS Class 37/4 in 1985, it became 37420 and received a Heavy General Overall at Crewe Works in December 1985.

 

Transferred to Inverness in January 1986 it worked the Northern Scottish passenger services for the next 4 years.

 

In May 1990 it went into the Railfreight Trainload sector and was allocated to Thornaby.

 

It saw passenger work again in 1995 to 1999 with Regional Railways before EWS allocation to Toton in June 1999.

 

EWS used it from October 1999 until June 2000 on the Rhymney - Cardiff then the FNW Hire for the Birmingham/ Crewe/ Manchester to Holyhead services.

 

It was officially stored 25 July 2000 here at Crewe Diesel from the WKCD pool.

 

EWS sold it to the scrappers in January 2008 and it was moved from Crewe on 23/01/2008 and scrapped the next month.

 

Scrapped 16/02/2008 at Ron Hull Jr Rotherham.
