try a little tenderness
Don't know about you but i do like Otis reading and I really like Try a little tenderness for a number of reasons.
One it was used in pretty in pink and i love that film. and two it was a life lesson on how to treat women in a world when it was acceptable to take what you wanted and cast her aside. Now get me wrong it wasn't all sugar and honey its about giving her what she wants, to get what he wants and we all know what that is.
Still a little tenderness is all I wanted in those confused days and the song was about something i would never feel as a woman.
That's a bit deep isn't it? Being trans can be a real pain, a hurtful confused journey!
Even today I sometimes just need that rock to lean on without feeling guilty that the rock is the woman i am meant to be supporting and not the other way round.
To be protected and not the protector. To be ushered into cover while my hero saves the day.
The reality is, I am that Hero, I will take the bullet i will be that rock and nothing in the world will ever change that. Not even a sentimental song.
Still it's a nice dream that makes me go all light headed and giddy..
