Coal Ash on the Middle Fork of the Vermilion
The extent of the erosion of riverbanks and the sloughing of gabions observed at this location was far greater than observed during the summer of 2017. It is likely that this is a result of the February 2018 flood, which was the highest recorded in nearly 25 years.
The cavernous holes in the riverbanks that penetrate toward the ash pits were not present in the summer of 2017.
