Coal Ash on the Middle Fork of the Vermilion
The extent of the erosion of riverbanks and the sloughing of gabions observed at this location was far greater than the summer of 2017. It is likely that this is a result of the February 2018 flood, which was the highest recorded in nearly 25 years.
Also, the loss of gabions has exposed leaching of coal ash contaminants.
