Reflect 68/366
SEVEN REFLECTIONS ON MY LIFE:
1960’s: I use to run away from home every summer and hitch hike to Florida where I lived as a hippie. My favorite hang out was Coconut Grove.
1966: I smoked my first joint (marijuana cigarette) when I was 14. I took my first acid trip when I was 15. I used drugs (or they used me) until I was 44.
In 1969 & 1976: I’ve been attacked (physically) for being gay. Luckily neither was serious enough to go to the hospital.
1969: I was raped in an abandoned building in downtown Detroit, Michigan. All I remember about this is running out of the building and trying to flag down a bus that was driving by.
In 1974: When I finally got up the nerve to tell my parents I was (am) gay my mom’s first response was “Tell me something I didn’t know!”
In 1974: I was strangled and left for dead in an alley in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Luckily all they got was my watch. I spent a night in the hospital.
In 1975: While in the U. S. Navy I was court marshaled twice for being gay. (This was before “don’t ask, don’t tell”. In the first case it was found that I was NOT GAY. In the second case it was found that I AM GAY, but they said if I wanted to stay in the Navy I could as long as I didn’t tell anyone I am gay
