Witches Circle Erie Cemetary

*************************************************************************************

Legend has it that Luther was a practicing witch in the Erie Area in the late 1800’s. His “coven” supposedly included Michael Haverstick who preceded him in death and was buried in a circle of family gravestones. Luther was buried on May 13, 1834 in the same circle.. That evening an unnaturally severe thunder and lightning storm descended on the area. The next day it was discovered that overnight The Douglas and Haverstick stones were turned black. If your read some of the writing on the stones in the circle you will find some pretty weird etchings.

The two blackened stones are to the left of the tree. Across from each other.

Now for the spooky part:

My sister -in-law is from Nova Scotia. I took her to the Erie Cemetery and she became quite enthralled with the witches circle and its history. So much so that when her sister visited she wanted to take her there. We all went as a group. My sister -in-law’s sister had her infant daughter with her. The child slept peacefully in her mother’s arms as we walked about. We reached the circle, and at one point the sister, still carrying her infant, went inside the circle to look at something. The baby literally woke up screaming in tantrum. The mother stepped outside to walk her daughter. As soon as she left the circle the infant settled right down. Thinking it was a fluke, she entered the circle again. The child again started to struggle and scream. Immediately the mother stepped outside the circle and the child settled right back down. No one else felt anything out of the ordinary, but apparently the infant did.
