Intel's 50 Gbps photonics link

Mario Paniccia says about this demonstration of his labs' silicon photonics link:

"What you have here is a big test board because this test board has a control function that we can use from the computer. It goes into the oscilloscopes. All these cables are bringing signals in. But when you look at the chip itself, the modules are quite small. When we port this into our server or to our PC platforms, these will be integrated just like any other chip."

"So, this is a lab measurement. You see this chip mounted onto a PCB board, mounted onto a little test module, that's what you can already see. But you'll see a transition of taking these little modules and plugging them into a PC, a laptop or into a server in the future."
