X-Scape Route : extra-terrestial map of the eternal other by Scott Ruff
In this variation of Translation is Dialogue "X-Scape Route : extra-terrestial map of the eternal other"
I decided to be far more literal about the notion of a body dwelling in a spatial – scape. The first piece was more concerned with abstraction, vessel/ objectness, singularity and structure. This is still about abstraction but functional abstraction; an abstraction born from deduction, supposition, speculation…meditation. It is about following the stars beyond the known landscape – transgressing to another world, to another plane of existence. The image is a “plane of Babel” communicating through the use of multiple languages; A map of a place on Earth, a map of a place in the sky which locates us on earth but references a place far beyond.
The title is also a translation play. The composition is born from a contemplation of the Underground railroad in the United States. But without that contextual grounding there are multiple interpretations to the chosen words.
extra-terrestial - the (eternal) other - alien - Blackness - primordial - void - solid
X - the unknown factor in mathmatical equations - the generic - the number 10.
