MAR 75 11. Barclay 0-4-0ST Toto shunts at Blaenavon, 1975
In this photo you can see where there used to be railway tracks criss-crossing on four levels.
Toto is shunting on the line leading to Big Pit and is traversing a bridge that spans the ex-LNWR lne from Blaenavon to Brymawr. At the far left the LNWR line itself crosses a girder bridge beneath which a line used to run into the Forgeside steelworks.
Above the Big Pit line can be seen a bridge which always puzzled me because it seems to lead into thin air. I have recently been told that it did once carry a railway track: - one that led to the Forgeside furnace tops, transporting the raw materials with which the furnaces were charged.
