Crash test dummy
When my colleagues at Cycling Plus gave me a helmet to review I don't think they intended me to carry out a full crash test. However cycling home last night from a friend's party (where I consumed a small cola and four cheesy snacks) I fell off my bike pretty comprehensively.
I choose the roundabout at the bottom of the Wells Way in Bath for my experiment. The roads around there have been very greasy for the past few weeks with all the nearby Southgate construction work. But ignoring common sense I went into the downhill 180 degree bend too fast and with too much front brake on. My front wheel went from under me in a flash and with no time to put out a hand, I cushioned the impact with my head. I gave myself a nasty headache and grazes all down my right hand side, including this attractive bash on my chin.
The £110 Specialized 2D helmet is now scrap; with having split straight through in a couple of places. But it definitely saved me from a trip to hospital :)
