Questo lampione fece luce a Napoleone prima di partire per la battaglia di Dego.
La battaglia di Dego fu combattuta tra il 14 e il 15 aprile 1796 tra le truppe francesi dell'Armata d'Italia comandata dal Generale Napoleone Bonaparte, inviato in Italia dal Direttorio per contrastare la politica antirivoluzionaria e antifrancese degli Asburgo, contro ciò che rimaneva delle truppe austriache e del Regno di Piemonte e Sardegna, già sconfitte nelle due precedenti battaglie di Montenotte e Millesimo.
A causa della sconfitta gli austriaci furono costretti a ritirarsi verso la Lombardia, ma Bonaparte invece di inseguirli come desiderava il Direttorio, preferì finire ciò che restava dell'esercito sabaudo.

The Battle of Dego was fought between the 14 and 15 April 1796 between the French troops of the Army of Italy commanded by General Napoleon Bonaparte, the Directory sent to Italy to counter the anti-revolutionary and anti-French policy of the Habsburgs, against what remained of the Austrian troops and the Kingdom of Piedmont and Sardinia, already defeated in the previous two battles of Montenotte and Millwall.
Because of the defeat the Austrians were forced to retreat towards Lombardy, but instead of Bonaparte wished to pursue as the Directory, preferred to finish what was left of the army of Savoy.
