Nearing the End_DSC7671

The Herbert C. Bonner Bridge (12, 865 feet long) crosses Oregon Inlet and provides the only highway connection between Hatteras Island and mainland North Carolina. The bridge is in advanced stages of deterioration and is nearing the end of its lifespan. Currently, the bridge is being repaired in order to keep it in service for the next ten years. During this period of time, the North Carolina Department of Transportation plans to replace the bridge. (Nearing the end of this beautiful sunset, colors were vibrant and not saturated in this photo.)
