LORNA and Remo at Konkani Rocks, Goa, India
KONKANI ROCKS: Goa's nightingale Lorna had the audience in raptures at the street event outside the Gonsalves House at Campal in Panjim, Goa, India, on 20 August 2010, marking the Goa Day celebrations. She was joined in by Goa's rockstar Remo Fernandes, while seasoned singers like fadista Sonia Shirsat (Mando), Purnanand Chari, D Moraes, Siddanath Buyao, Roshan, Ms Rosario and others added their own contribution to the rare Konkani extravanganza, with a superb band led by Norman Cardozo providing throbbing music. The event took off with an admirable Konkani tiatr "Tthikann" written and directed by Comedian 64, in which little Gemma Fernandes (former NRI) stole the honours. Veteran Domingos Braganza (in his eighties) from Merces, playing the trombone, trumpet and the saxophone stirred a resounding applause. Congratulations to the main organisers, Heritagejazz, headed by Armando Gonslaves, for the unique show reflecting Konkani song, music and culture. Former Speaker and celebrity tiatrist Tomazinho Cardozo was one of the comperes and also rendered a comic song along with his wife Irene.
