Wales Llansilin

Church of St Silin - The earliest building a thousand years ago was made of wood. A small window, the south doorway, and some decorative stonework survive from the first stone church built c1200

This was re-built in15c after the church had been laid waste during Owain Glyn Dwr's rebellion

In the Civil War, Charles l having passed through the town the year before, parliamentarians took refuge here in 1646 and attempted to fortify it, destroying the glass in the East window and figures on the rood-beam which may have been used to baracade the door which still shows bullet holes

The tower built c1830 replacing a wooden bell-cote destroyed by fire, houses 6 bells
