Ledbury Herefordshire

Timber framed building in church lane dates back to the late 15c It was originally a schoolroom and master's house. endowed in part from the Holy Trinity church chantry. The Chantry and school were closed as part of the Dissolution in 1547. It was then re-endowed and renamed the King Edward VI Grammar School during his reign (1547-1553). The school finally closed c 1860.

Originally the hall was entered from a door from church lane and another on the east side.

Mid 18c the front and side entrances were sealed with studding and a new entrance constructed in the centre of the building. The upper floor was partitioned to provide 3 further rooms.

In the 19c the building was converted to form 5 tenements. A chimney with a large open copper for heating was constructed in what would have been the three bay hall, and two bays at the eastern end were converted into a coal store and toilet block. The first floor provided most of the new living accommodation and the amenities included a cast iron fire/cooking range in one of the rooms and the insertion of ceilings in all of the principal rooms.

In 1977 the first floor was converted to provide a three bedroom flat complete with bathroom - Ledbury Herefordshire
