12c-13c Church of St Mary & All Saints, Pilton, Northamptonshire

c. 1170–80 Reset south doorway is all that remains of an early 12c church. The present building has a 13c nave, arcades, south aisle & south porch. Late 13c three stage tower and broach spire. Nave heightened with clerestory windows and added parapet in late 14c. later 15c - 17c renovations included new windows. Chancel , north aisle & north vestry rebuilt in 1864

1086 Domesday Survey records "Pilketon" manor was held by Roger de Torpel from the Abbot of Peterborough , the family continuing to hold the manor until c1225 when the male line having run out, were followed by the Camoys and thence to the Treshams whose shields are on either side of the outer porch

The tower has 4 bells, the same number as in 1552. The treble is by Thomas Newcombe, of Leicester (1506–20), with the recurrent letter S alternating with a cross; the second and third are by Tobie Norris, of Stamford, 1610, and the tenor has the inscription 'Nomen Magdalene Campana geret melodie,' with the marks of John Danyell, of London (1450–61).

In 1874 the owner Thomas 4th Lord Lillford with his estate agent / architect Thomas Littleton Selby undertook the restoration of the church which included new choirstalls etc. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/698A1p
