These stocks originally stood near the village pound, close to the small bridge on the road to Hockerton. Their upright posts were replaced c1900 and only the upper cross member and the 2 jaws of the stocks remain as they were last used, probably c1860. At that time the last occupant is said to have been "old Wombwell" a persistent wife beater.
