Late C13 but possibly recut effigy of a knight brought from t he old church.
He wears chain mail with decorated surcourt, his feet resting on dog. His shield is believed to have the arms of the Wake family. The church guide says he wears a c1300 belt, but has a moustache of c1375.
He may be related to Hereward the Wake an Anglo-Saxon who led resistance to the Norman Conquest & became known as ‘Hereward the Outlaw’, who was born in or near Bourne which is approximately 4 miles from here - Church of St Faith, Wilsthorpe, Lincolnshire
