BNSF 6906 Westbound Z-WSPALT8-06A Sumner MO Drone
Well Kenny and I setout to do the Marceline Sub for a day on Tuesday 3/07. Well the night before a strong line of thunderstorms ahead of a cold front pushed thru Missouri with straight line winds and tornadoes in many spots. Unfortunately for us winds knocked over a complete Q-train west of Mendon causing a major mess. The Marceline Sub was brought to a halt for roughly 24 hours while cleanup was done. This is the 2nd time we got hosed by a blown over train in the past 5 years on a vacation. Lucky us, the last time was May 2012.
Around 10 trains were able to detour via between the Bucklin connection and KC on the Brookfield Sub. Lack of qualified crews and capacity (stored cars on sidings) limited the detours. So only hot trains and Amtraks were detoured during the 24 hour cleanup.
One detour was this Z-WSPALT8-06A. Seen here from the sky crossing the Stanley Lake near Sumner, 14 miles west of Brookfield. This train would meet detouring Amtrak # 4 at Aalberg.
