Little Ax in this incarnation of the group.
The Spirit of Memphis Quartette (called the plural "Spirits of Memphis Quartette" here) were a big gospel group. Formed in 1930 by James Darling, A.C. Harris, Forrest Terrel, and Arthur Wright. Added more members and dropped the "Quartette"/"Quartet" part of their name at some later point. First recording released in 1949. Other members were Early Malone, Jethroe "Jet" Bledsoe, Theo Wade, James Darling, Robert Reed, the Reverend Robert Crenshaw, Silas Steele, and William "Little Ax" Brodnax.
A recording of them singing (with lots of crowd screams) at Memphis' big Mason Temple in October 1952: youtu.be/q0TEuL669Sw
Their great version of "He Never Left Me Alone" (Silas Steele on lead): youtu.be/ta7cVlqJK_4
