Fall 1981 late afternoon. Miranda Sensorex SLR. Kodachrome. The engineer, in overalls, was off the Montreal train (Ocean Limited, called "The Ocean" latterly, as at this time), at right. He told me later he had hired on with CN in 1939, firing steam engines, and later earned his ticket as a steam loco driver. He asked if I wanted to go up in the cab and look around, so I did and took some snaps (also on my flickr, under the set "FPA-4".
Few trains come to Halifax now, seeming to cater less to local travellers like students and stuff, and more to the foreign and silver-haired tourist set, with hoaky NS tartanified history lessons etc.
