Nature of Consciousness

Gouache, ink on paper 2001

Reads: Our ideas in science and philosophy in regard to the nature of consciousness have left us no less bewildered as to who we are and what our purpose might be in the perceived web of life.

/The idea of time as a property of the universe - not just a part of our perception- suggests that it has a direction, although some experiments with sub-atomic particles show that some can actually go backwards in time, although not the same way as they go forwards. These actions may be changed by observation.

/ The theory of non-locality posits that the the charges of two electrons, once they have been together, will always exist in opposing charges, no matter how far apart they move from each other in space or time; one will instantaneously flip to the opposite charge when the other changes.

/ It is perhaps possible that our ability to perceive the universe is in fact impossible without our primitive and on-going relationship to an Other.

Our imagining that we know reality and our belief that we can only see it through our own individual lens, may in fact be the most fundamental illusion we live with.

/ The nature and extent of our consciousness is governed and limited by the same parameters which negotiated the existence if the earth. We have risen up, holy and pure, from the dark wastes of the cosmos.

/ We are yet another mysterious and miraculous manifestation of the infinite, varied forms of the universe.
