Doormen from rival London hotels parlaying in the middle of Whitehall Place. Staff from the Royal Horseguards used to own this street, with their whistles and imperious manner, but they face new competition from the renovated hotel across the street. I noticed that the doormen greeted each other with big exaggerated hand claps, like bowler hatted gangsters. Presumably the bon homie will dissolve to acrimony when cabs -and tips- are scarce.
