Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, 2010

Like fellow countrymen Plato and Socrates, Stelios is so well known he doesn’t need his surname. EasyJet remains his most famous brand, yet the relationship is turbulent – probably because although he is no longer on the board he still holds a 38% share. ‘Basically, it’s created no shareholder value for 10 years,’ he told MT last year as he squared up to fight management expansion plans.

Stelios has set up 16 other ‘easy’ ventures since 1999, and he’s done very well out of most of them, thanks very much. Just don’t mention flops like easyMoney, easyMobile and easy4Men, the toiletries business. What toiletries business? Exactly.
