VE Day - a perspective

Some images of my Dad, Bill MacLennan. As a very young man in North Africa at the start of the adventure, afterwards at the memorial to his comrades, and much later in Holland among a free generation. I imagine VE day came as quite a relief, with tens of millions dead and a continent in ruins. Of the 450 men of 47 RM Commando who landed on D Day, my Dad was one of 88 left standing by VE Day. If we could reach out and speak to that generation, I doubt I'd bother mentioning the terrible spring of 2020 when we all had to endure staying at home and amuse ourselves for a while. My huge sympathies are with those who have lost loved ones, and my undying admiration goes to the NHS staff and many other supporting workers who look after us; but a wee bit of perspective needs to be maintained. Lest we forget.
