This is what autism looks like. So much is shadowed and hidden. Unclear. Especially in the early days, I've found that it's so easy to spend time and energy mourning what I think I've lost. What's hidden in the shadows. The details I don't understand. But the further we go together on this journey, the easier it is for me to focus on the patches of light. The things I do know, and I do understand. That he will always be the friendliest kid on the playground. That he is, to his core, the oldest brother... And every little thing that entails. That he is not afraid to stand up in front of a hundred strangers and play a violin solo. That his heart is the purest I have ever known.
