... is a really hard life. But, peolple have been successful at it here for thousands of years... through all sorts of climate change - us Welsh are a hardy bunch ;-)

Mynachlog-ddugoes back to prehistoric times, with evidence of Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements. The area is known for its prehistoric remains, including a possible site of the Battle of Mynydd Carn in 1081

Later, it came under Norman control by the early 12th century and saw development as a slate quarrying village, with a chapel since 1794. It also played a role in the Rebecca Riots.

Prehistoric and Early History:

 

Prehistoric Remains: Mynachlog-ddu and the surrounding Preseli Hills are rich in prehistoric sites, including a Neolithic chambered tomb and Bronze Age standing stones.

Possible Battle Site: It's one of the possible locations of the Battle of Mynydd Carn in 1081, a significant conflict in Welsh history.

Norman Influence: By the early 12th century, the area came under Norman control.

 

Development and Industrial Past:

 

Slate Quarrying: The village developed as a settlement for slate quarry workers.

 

Chapel: A chapel has existed in the village since 1794.

Rebecca Riots: Mynachlog-ddu was involved in the Rebecca Riots, a series of protests against toll gates in the mid-19th century.

Remoteness:

Despite its history, Mynachlog-ddu retains a sense of remoteness and is located in an area with special qualities within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

 

Stonehenge Connection:

The Preseli Hills, including areas near Mynachlog-ddu, are the source of the bluestones used in Stonehenge's inner circle.
