I thought I'd try semi-stand using perceptol and a fast(ish) film. It did not work. As expected there was more grain than 1+1 or 1+3. There is very little in the shadows and trying to retrieve any detail resulted in an emphasis of the grain.

 

Rather than give up completely, I decided to use them for a technique I've tried before: a sort of charcoal sketch look
