Dorris, CA - SP on Roadrailer
I'm grateful to John Turner for his comments that made me research this area properly, after posting yesterday another shot taken here.
Taken from a higher viewpoint, SP's 8572 is an SD40T-2, a "Tunnel Motor" with additional ventilation grilles at the bottom of the long hood. I'm afraid I don't have an identity for the second loco, it looks like an SD45 with the flared vents at the front of the long hood.
My research lead me to the fairly stunning site of Greg Brown at www.flickr.com/photos/goatboat/ , and he has some pictures of this service apparently introduced earlier in 1996.
The train is about to enter the most southerly of the two tunnels here, close to the town of Dorris itself.
