Czech Republic - ČSD 556 x2
A trial of some scans I've being doing this afternoon, to see how they look after processing. The trusty T90's with fixed Canon lenses on Provia don't seem to have fared too badly in atrocious lighting - but any criticisms will be gratefully received.
Following the end of Communism, a number of "Red Star" events were held in the Czech Republic, featuring operational steam from the post war era. Many of these events were organised by Ad van Sten of Rotterdam, and functioned as charters on the mainline, with stops at various places to allow car borne photographers to get ahead for their next shot - something similar to Plandampf in the former DDR.
This event featured a pair of CSD 2-10-0's of Class 556, built in the 1950's by Škoda in Plzeň, then known as the Lenin Works. For British viewers, think 9F but even more wonderful, with their Witte style deflectors and stylish tenders! The locos with substantial matching freight train headed north from Brno to Česká Třebová and back over a weekend - this line was subsequently modernised and electrified later in the 90's and so such an event would no longer be possible.
