Trambus takes fire on test drive in central Turkey
MALATYA - 16.3.2015
A trambus which was on test drive in Turkish central province of Malatya caught on fire due to an unknown reason on Sunday, March 15, 2015.
Hopefully, no one was injured or killed in the incident since driver of the vehicle noticed the fire from camera and evacuated passengers, mostly students, before the fire spread.
The vehicle was totally destroyed after the incident. According to statement by Malatya Municipality, the reason of the fire will be determined after an inspection. - China News Agency
Malatya trambus fire inspection report:
The behaviour of the DC power supply seemed normal before and after the incident, as well as power surge regulator and transformers that supply the system. Scada and power levels also seemed fine (it's about software and computer systems probably.).
An independent German foundation (TÜV Thüringen) found a problem with the contactor box that could have caused an electric arc. An electric arc can be caused if the contactor box overheats and built up pressure inside the box could have caused the fire on 15.3.2015.
Conclusive report points out that the overheated contactor box is caused the accident, the same defect could not found on other trambuses.
Any kind of problems and defects on the trambuses are insured by the manufacturer, they started to build a new trambus. By 30.3.2015, damaged parts of the cables has been repaired and trambuses started new test drives. According to another sources, the faulty box was manufactured by Vossloh-Kiepe (Vossloh-Kiepe electric inlet box? or something like that)
