It's Clean Up Time!
The city's Clean-Up campaign dose seem to be making some visible progress in slowly improving the condition of waste collection and disposal in the city.
Thousands of men and women are dressed in these orange and green jumpsuits that are emblazoned with the program's clever logo: a giant exclamation point! I feel the graphics allude to comic book action heros, and these workers certainly deserve a lot of attention and praise.
Beyond trying to containerize and mechanize waste collection, the initiative is also experimenting with some more controversial approaches. Private security firms have been licensed to enforce the city's cleanliness bylaws, and have been enticed by an agreement that sees them keeping half of any fine levied. They're also trying the social marketing route and handing out ID badges to citizens who are keen to be ambassadors of the program.
