Ruin of Holy Name Catholic Church (Kansas City, Missouri)
Built in 1928 and designed by the firm of Wight & Wight, the same firm that designed the Jackson County Courthouse in downdown Kansas City, Holy Name church at 23rd St. and Benton was at first a thriving parish surrounded by neighborhoods of working families.
But as neighborhood demographics changed, attendence waned until the church was abandoned completely in the 1980s.
Over the years, attempts were made by other denominations to resurrect the church but in the end, the private owner who had been searching for funds to restore it, funded the wrecking ball to finish it, not long after this picture was taken.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 (NRIS #03000964)
