82019 & D6544 at Waterloo

BR Standard 3MT tank 82019, already shorn of the smokebox door number plate, is leaving on a van train passing the shunter and green liveried BRCW D6544 (later to become 33-026 (not quite sure what a Hither Green engine was doing at Waterloo with the headcode for a Victoria/Sheerness, or Reading/Basingstoke/Yeovil service !

Tthe exact date of this pic is unknown, but must be very close to the end of steam on the former LSWR main line to Southampton and Bournemouth, as the smokebox door numberplate had been removed already !

 

82019 :

26 Sept 1952 - built Swindon, allocated to Exmouth Junction.

9 July 1967 - Withdrawn from Nine Elms (70A) - one of the last 2 surviving in service.

30 Niov 1967 - Scrapped at Bird's, Risca

None survived into preservation, but one is being built by the 82045 group on the Severn Valley Railway..
