Deva Fortress

Hunedoara County, Romania

Built in the 13th century, Deva Fortress was one of the most powerful fortresses of Transylvania. Its first documentary attestation dates back to 1269, in an act issued by Stefan, the king of Hungary. The citadel functioned between 14th - 15th centuries as a voievodal residence and valach district.
