Hognosed Pitviper (Porthidium nasutum)

This snake struck and killed an anolis adjacent to where we stood. The first we knew of it's presence was as the snake rolled down a tree stump with the lizard still struggling in its jaws. It landed about 12 inches from my feet. The snake quickly consumed the lizard whilst keeping an eye on us as we took some photos. This was on the jungle path leading from the rear of the cabinas at Chilamate Eco-Resort, Costa Rica.
