Audio log #8- Showdown

The alarm klaxons flaring, I headed towards the command center. Rather, towards to hangar, which was adjacent to the command center. Checking my chronometer, I suddenly paused, and was rewarded with a muffled boom. Smiling to myself, I continued onward, until I reached the hangar. Inside, I was rewarded with my prize; a snub-nosed Urag light recon flyer. That would be my ride out of here. But before I could board, I heard a noise behind me...

Not waiting to see who or what it was, I rammed the stock of my new rifle behind me, into the general area of the midsection. I was rewarded with a soft impact, and a muffled "oof". I leaped forward several paces, to get some distance between me and my would-be attacker. Turning, I was the chieftain that had interrogated me earlier. He laughed when I turned to face him, and said, "How does it feel to be betrayed by your own kind, human dog! No matter, because you will not live long enough to care..."

With this, he brought his massive chainsword to bear. It began to glow with unseen energy, as the chains began to rotate. I did not wait for him to take the initiative, and use that wicked weapon. I fired a single shot towards his forehead. He used his weapon to block, as he moved it with unbelievable speed. His attempts ultimately failed, however. He cought the first shot, and the second. But he missed the third, fourth, and fifth. And the sixth. I kept firing at the monster, until the pulse sniper began to overheat. By this time, all that was left of the chieftain was a steaming pile of eviscerated meat. 'Not so tough after all, I thought to myself.' As an afterthought, I searched the remaining gear on his belt. Odd. there was something here, something not of Urag origins. It was an encrypted, long-distance radio! I pocketed it, wondering where he got such a rare piece of equipment. After all, these were reserved for high ranking officers, or those in the USDF high command...

I pondered this, and the Urag's last words as I flew out of this hellhole. As I left, internal explosions rocked the Assault Craft. After I tripped the sensors in the cell, the energy bars switched to high power. Since they couldn't melt the lenses, searing cones of energy speared upwards through the ship... right into the reactor, as I learned via the map lost by the chieftain. The mission was a success, but the implications of a betrayal somewhere high up in command was disturbing, to say the least...
