Hemerocallis 'Fred’s Red' 24w36 35mo
Hemerocallis 'Fred’s Red' 24w36 35mo Daylily N3 (Murphy, 2012) Tall red Daylily , 44in.@ Maturity, Dark red star, Hardy to Zone 3, Garden N3 (SRC Murphy) PLTD 2021.
(Murphy 2012) 44" VL 7" SEV Diploid. This dark red star is named in honor of Fred Benzinger, who was a mentor to many in this area. It is out of two late Benzinger seedlings, and carries a lot of those famous Benzinger characteristics of toughness, good scapes, and carefree culture. It is somewhat old fashioned looking up close, but from a distance is one of the best reds in the garden, with yellow throat, yellow midribs, and lots of blooms. 5 branches, 34 buds, strong bud-builder, very sun-resistant, and in bloom until September. Very fertile and a good parent for very late reds.
