Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blaumeise' 9/2021 Bigleaf-

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blaumeise' 9/2021 Bigleaf- (1979) Teller's Blue Bigleaf Hydrangea, Mature size: 4-6’, lacecap, rose red or deep blue, USDA Hardiness Zone 5, Michigan Bloom Month 6, In Garden Bed D1,#01 for 3.1 YEARS (MBulb). Planted in 2018.

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blaumeise' is commonly sold under many different names: Tellers Blue, Blue Tit, Blue Titmouse, & Blue Sky. 'Blaumeise' is part of the Teller Series (Switzerland breeding program that started in 1952) of 26 hybrid lacecap (teller means plate in German) hydrangeas that were named after European birds. Note that Blaumeise translates to blue titmouse. Probably the most hardy of the Tellers, but it needs protection from late frosts. It's a tall (4-6') plant with strong stems. And, it's blue or pink depending on the soil pH and aluminum content.

2020 note: no blooms after 2 years. This plant may bloom only on old wood. It was protected all winter with plastic wrap cylinder.
